Mexican artist Mauricio Morillas divides his time between Mexico City and New York, creating stunning mixed media pieces with subtle but richly nuanced textures. Working with such diverse elements as pigment, acrylic, metal, glass and resin on wood panel, Morillas carefully builds layers and transforms his materials to create shadows and indentations until his composition is complete. In his characteristically unique style, he blends and repurposes his materials to merge dramatic detail with simplicity as if reflecting on both brokenness and a simultaneous need for quiet. Each piece is a unique vision preserving texture within an overall aesthetic that balances tension with harmony.

Originally from Medellin, Colombia, Ricardo Arango has been working at sculpture for the past fifteen years. Arango works with ceramics, glass, marble and steel, often melding a combination of these different elements into a single piece. Additionally, he often uses discarded materials following his belief that beauty can be created from that which is underappreciated. His work highlights the beauty of each element as he places the diverse materials in unique arrangements. Arango finds clay, for instance, soft and easily manipulated in a way unlike steel. In his work process, clay does not require tools as his hands are the main tool which allows for the spontaneous flow of composition and forms to spring from his thoughts.

Thomas J. Hagen's oil paintings are a combination of the real and imaginary. His urbanscapes are a presentation of scenes that are combined; he works on reconstructing an image until it is totally his own. With masterful brush strokes and beams of light streaming through his compositions, he paints leftover places that haven't been ruined or removed. In Hagen's words, "I paint what is not accepted as beautiful, but that which can be transformed by paint and brushwork into strong and visually powerful imagery." Hagen received his BA from the University of Southern California and his MFA from the Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles.

Beating, mixing and pouring paper pulp requires harnessing a flow of energy and transforming buckets of wet pulp into deliberate designs. The resulting textures lead to interesting contrasts of smooth, rough, shiny and matt while at the same time, following a minimalist composition that allows the viewer to imagine their own associations.
